Everyone wants that fairy tale, movie moment at some point in their life. If for some reason you don't want one, you're lying to yourself. A great way to get that wonderful experience is by having an engagement photoshoot. Engagement photos are literally designed to capture and tell YOUR love story. It's your chance to live in the moment, soak up amazing moments with your partner, and just be yourself and have fun.
No matter if you are a selfie fanatic or completely camera shy, engagement photos are likely a new frontier to you and your significant other. It can be overwhelming and you may not know what to expect. There are so many great opportunities to make your engagement photos enjoyable, easy, and memorable. So you know what to expect from your engagement photos, to ensure you get the best looking photos you can possibly get, and to help you take advantage of every potential benefit that comes with your engagement photoshoot.
Planning your Engagement Shoot
Make your engagement photos an event
Photos capture memories. The best way to get those incredible photos that you're dreaming of is to have a great time when taking photos! This leads to having fun on the day of your shoot, but also gives you great memories to look back on when you see your photos.
There are so many ways you can turn your engagement photos into an event. The possibilities are endless! You can plan an activity to do while taking photos. This can be anything from going on a hike to going to an arcade. Turn your engagement session into an excuse for a date night! Bring along your pets and make it a family outing! Find something fun that fits your relationship so you can make amazing memories and show off your love for each other.
Take Advantage of Your Engagement Photos
Get the most use out of your photo session
Most people don't take full advantage of everything an engagement session has to offer. This is your chance to get comfortable in front of the camera. You get to see how you, your fiancé, and your photographer will all work together and work out any kinks before your wedding day. This is also when you can figure out what kinds of photos you like. Do you like wide full body shots the most? Close up details? Posed romantic photos? Or silly candid's? You get to see what you photographer can do and what you like the most so on your wedding day your photographer can keep that in mind!
Engagement photos are also your chance to do a test run for virtually any aspect of your wedding that you're worried about. Worried about a new person doing your hair and makeup? Let them do your hair and makeup for the engagement photos as a test run. Worried about your flowers? Work with your florist and get a bouquet for your engagement session. It will give you peace of mind and help you have less stress on your wedding day.
What To Do at Your Engagement Photoshoot
How to look your best in photos
What should you wear? What should you bring? Those by far are the two most asked questions I get from clients about their engagement sessions. So much so that I have an entire section dedicated to this topic in my wedding guide that all my couples receive for free when they book with me! My general advice is to bring more than one outfit to your session. This lets us capture a variety which gives us choices of what looks best. Make sure one of those outfits is a nicer outfit. One thing most couples lack is nice dressed up photos of the both of you. You'll be happy you got photos in a nice outfit. Also be sure to bring things that represent your relationship like props. This takes your photos to the next level and makes them completely unique.
What To Do After Your Engagement Session
Get Something Tangible
After your engagement photos are taken, there are many things you can do with those memorable photos. The most important thing to do with your engagement photos is to get something tangible. You can use these in a variety of ways from decorations at your wedding reception to decorating your home or for your save the dates. Get something that you can hold with your engagement photos on it. You will thank me.
