2020 Here I Come!!
How I Started Photography
It all started when I was 13. I have been interested in photography and video for as long as I can remember. When I got my first point and shoot camera, at age 13, I dragged my little brother outside for a photo shoot and played around with those photos in paint to make it look like he was jumping out of a bunch of flowers or like he was playing baseball at a real stadium. Believe me when I say I have improved a lot since then, but the passion has always been there.
My Favorite Model
I know as a photographer I shouldn't have a favorite model…
…but I do.
My favorite model's name is Kelly.
Nobody starts as a great photographer and I am no exception to that rule. I have always been interested in cameras, but for most of my life, my focus was on video. I still love video (check out this video I edited for City Surge), but I was looking to try something new. Enter my best friend Kelly.
Anyone Can Take A Photo
In a day and age where everyone has a camera in their pocket, we have all fallen victim to having our picture taken and it being a picture that we don't look good in or like. These are the pictures that you see on Facebook and immediately untag yourself. Maybe you're mom still likes the picture because she loves you, but you know that those double chins make you look like a completely different person. Seeing pictures like this can make you feel incredibly self conscious and even make you camera shy. That's exactly what happened to this girl.
Give Yourself Time
As mental health awareness month draws to a close, I thought I'd take a moment to open up about my mental health.
This month, or more accurately, this year has been a trying time for me. I've been dealing with lots of stress, anxiety, and depression. In fact, things have gotten so extreme for me that earlier this month I ended up in the hospital.
Mental health is something I've dealt with for as long as I can remember. As a child and adolescent, I used to be in and out of psychiatrist offices and therapist offices frequently. I don't think I would have made it through college without the support of my on-campus counselor. When I tell people this, they always seem surprised. I am an optimistic and "happy" person. What problems could I possibly have?
